Wheedle

2006 10 10_6778
You flatter with a slippery tongue

to lure me with unusual bait;

dry dark humor make some wet.

You honeyed words with cracked pepper,

curry favors make my wine bitter,

and your buttery tones weaken my heart.

Soft soap comes in refills, you know.

It’s time to throw the bottle out!

Proverbs 29:5 – A man that flattereth his neighbour spreadeth a net for his feet.

  1. I’m not sure if this is addressed to the purveyor of candy depicted in the picture or if this is metaphoric for an individual or group that is using temptation to sell an idea to the masses. To me, it sounds like a politician or advertiser who has come under fire. I like the use of synonyms – they create a strong metaphor.

  2. ha…those last 2 lines totally threw me in the first read…the soft soap…ah you have to watch those with a slippery tongue…they can make it sound so appealing…like the tastes you bring out in the middle…
