walking history

ain%27t+no+disco[1]

it’s been years since I
walked these dusty streets;

past empty windows
filled with memories
i hear the voices,
laughter and songs;
passing people plot

their way in this place
not today, today…
just tapping, tapping;
my heavy boots on
history’s wooden planks

not tell another
word as i pass by…

  1. I love the way this poem turns on the word today, and the image of tapping one’s way along the planks of history is very good indeed. Beginning and ending with the couplets and dividing the remaining lines makes for a very interesting 14 line format.
