Huntsman by night…
sleeper by day;
you woodland stalker.
Through thicket,
past rooty forest floor,
and in brittle grasses.
Stealthy, silent, sly…
gentle beneath my touch;
yet fierce in confrontation.
Champion toward deer,
furious of evading fox,
and he who captures rodent.
My fearless friend…
the years have been good;
tumbling by as fallen leaves.
Perhaps, God knew
your friendship would
bring this family joy.
This little guy has been fun to watch through the years. At age 16+, he still likes a good stare down, as he did years ago toward a full size deer in our open meadow. Weekly, he battles with a 90 pound lab and ends up the hero. For all those cat lovers… I’m linking up with dVerse later today.

Love it
if I didn’t have a parrot to object, I would be looking for a little stalker to join my family.
Such a beautiful face! Lovely poem & much enjoyed
oh this is lovely…pets can be such friends…made me smile and great shot by emma as well..
Well, how could you not fall in love with that face? We have a range from 2 years old to 18…. The youngest is like this one, the brave hunter. Love this!
Wow he must be fierce – staring down deer and foxes! Nice ode to your beloved friend and loving pet.
I love cats sounds so much like mine. But here on the islands he battles only with birds and rats and shows the big dog who is king. http://gatelesspassage.com/2013/02/02/reflections/
I enjoyed this and will have to share it with my cat-loving friends. You really highlighted his character in just a few words.
Wonderful cat picture. I am always amazed by long-lived cats that spend some of their life out of doors. There are so many dangers there…but obviously this cat is one survivor! Nice poem.
Pets do bring such joy and brightness to our lives ~ His face is so huge in my screen..he…he….~ Enjoyed this ~
I love cats but I’m allergic and so is my daughter, so this write brings back fond memories of a childhood pet. Well written friend. Love these lines:
Stealthy, silent, sly…
gentle beneath my touch;
yet fierce in confrontation.
16+ that’s amazing, lovely capture
Great portrait of your cat here; he has so much in common with the other cats I have known.
What a handsome chap
What a magnificent poem, captures his essence perfectly – or should that be purrfectly!
