In cloak of twilight
towering tresses move
like winged creatures
in dimness of timber;
where waterless wadi
lounges hidden beneath
mounded snows;
one day will track
deep within
darkness of dark.
Wintry is my view
where jaded fern no
longer mature on
woodland bed;
lay barren of critters.
Tucked deeply within
tired terrain is my soul;
like empty wadi
deep within layers
of soft tissue at twilight.
wa•di (wädē) (in certain Arabic-speaking countries) A valley, ravine, or channel that is dry except in the rainy season.
joining opening link over at dVerse later today… happy new year

wadi- what a great word. If im reading this right there is a real emptiness in this….and i like the way you use the wadi to reflect this…despite them being surrounded by rich life, the wadi is deep and empty and waterless
This took my breath away…incredible poetry, stunning art. Did you do the painting. I want to learn that technique.
Such a very pretty poem. So musical. Thanks. k.
love that you included the wadi…gives it such a far reaching feel..wonderful pic as well
Vivid and a lovely write. Wishing you a happy new year!
Nice!! I really enjoyed this!!
..this is a gem… it has a soft, not too fragile quality of the emotions conveyed… i can sense the purity & elegance of the whole piece… lovely start of the year… smiles… and happy new year…
Lovely, lovely write…your words sway here in such a beautiful way. The image is fantastic as well. Happy New Year to you!
This is simply beautiful and quite vivid!
Thanks for this… I always run across ‘wadi’ on my crossword puzzles. I’ll now think of your lovely poem.
“Tucked deeply within
tired terrain is my soul;
like empty wadi
deep within layers
of soft tissue at twilight.”
Deeply stirring, this, & the whole is beautifully expressed… love the pic!
oh this is brilliantly crafted, the sounds of the words enhanced by your placement – “in dimness of timber;” and “tissue at twilight” – and it all has a kind of whispery cadence with the sibilance (a poem to be read aloud for sure!). I love the picture too, great stuff all round!
An illusion of bareness, but the rains will come. Love the photo you used.
an empty wadi deep…that bit right there made this for me….the picture is amazing as well….very nicely penned…happy new year…
This is truly gorgeous writing. Gorgeous
Love the color and view of the wintry scene ~ Happy New Year ~
your poem and picture are both just quietly beautiful..
I really like the imagery at the end of the soul in the tissue of the earth.
This image is breathtaking – is it yours? SO beautiful! A lovely poem, as well. A feast, in here this morning. Happy New Year!
A very evocative poem!
The empty wadi seems like death of the absence of a sense of living here in your poem. Yet the wadi is resurrected in the rainy season
